I got caught in the state of va. with some marijuana seeds, Is this a federal crime?

Also could this just be a misdemeanor law? Would this affect my medicaid or or food stamp case too ?. The test came back negative because we had to take urine test then and it's been a while since I smoked? i am also seeking disability. I am a single parent and I have a 11 year old son too?
