Is there any way to avoid raccoon eyes while tanning?

I have been wanting to get a tan for a while (I'm a guy). I have read up on it and they say to ALWAYS wear eye protection while tanning. They say it has to be sunglasses too...No cucumber slices, rags over eyes, etc. I am just afraid of getting the raccoon eyes. Are there any glasses I can wear that protect from UV radiation but still don't give me the tan lines. I'm very new at tanning so any advice is helpful. I am going to be tanning outside as well so please refrain from giving me indoor tanning tips. thanks
